New GPC pumps G$2m into Kashif & Shanghai football

The New GPC Inc is the latest corporate entity to throw its support behind the 21st staging of the Kashif and Shanghai football tournament, which kicks off on December 12 at the National Stadium, Providence.

The company yesterday presented its contribution of G$2 million in cash and kind to directors of the K&S organization, Kashif Muhammed and Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major, at its head office at Farm, East Bank Demerara. Among other things, the sponsorship will cover the fourth place prize of G$250,000 and a trophy.

According to Marketing Manager Trevor Bassoo, the New GPC Inc has always played a major role in the development of sport, football in particular. Bassoo said the company is extremely pleased to support Guyana’s premier football tournament for the third year in succession.

He also congratulated the two directors on the success the competition has achieved over the past two decades.

“New GPC Inc. is pleased to be a major sponsor of the annual Kashif and Shanghai tournament, hence our contribution to the value of two million dollars. We’ve always contributed to sports, football in particular, since we believe sports play an important part in our lives, keeping us active,” Bassoo said.

“Other than keeping us active and making us healthy, we know that sports keep us occupied; and in this time and age, young people in particular need to be occupied and out of trouble. I would like to commend Kashif and Shanghai for their initiative and continued dedication towards this annual tournament. Congratulations, guys!” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the Kashif and Shanghai organisation, co-director Kashif Muhammed thanked the management and staff of New GPC for their generous support. He noted that his organisation has enjoyed a very fruitful relationship with the company over the years.

“On behalf of the Kashif and Shanghai organisation, I would like to thank New GPC Inc for their continued support. This is their third year with our tournament, and this is the first year that they have come this generous, and we’re very grateful. I suppose they have been seeing our growth and development over the years. We hope that this relationship gets better and better as the years go by,” Muhammed posited.

The 18 teams vying for a first prize of G$2 million are: defending champions BK International Western Tigers; Pele; Ann’s Grove; Sunburst Camptown; Fruta Conquerors; Guyana Defence Force; Riddim Squad; Santos; Seawall United FC; Rosignol FC; NA United; Bakewell Topp XX; Milerock; Liquid Gold; Victoria Kings; Buxton United; Bakewell Buxton; and the lone foreign team, Caribbean United of Barbados.
